Artist information
I love to create bold, colourful, dramatic and textured paintings. I am constantly inspired by the natural world and through my work – both abstract and respresentational – I aim to represent the beauty, wonder and fragility of the environment around me. I am largely self-taught working mainly in oils, pastels and iridescent/metallic acrylics. My vivid pieces often incorporate unconventional methods even using Polyfilla to create heavy impasto. I love to paint wild, energising landscapes and seascapes featuring dramatic skies and magical sunsets and am constantly inspired by the breathtaking beauty and dramatic scenery of Scotland and the Isles of Scilly. In addition to small and intimate work, I also love to create much larger, bold statement pieces on large canvases. I feel that art is both something that should be looked at and admired but I also want some of my pieces to go beyond the visual and be tactile as well. I am happy for my work to be touched so that the viewer can be drawn even further into the painting. Visitors will be warmly welcomed to my Open Studio and they will see finished art, work in progress and learn about the methods and materials I use.
