Alongside Susan Burton, I work in glass in our studio at Kenswick Manor, Worcestershire making glass art for the home and garden. It’s a great place to visit!
I came to glass fusing after retiring from my career in the Civil Service and later in education. Both of us had a few lessons in this art, which we loved, and this kick-started our partnership as Essnelle Glass Art. Having a love of arts and nature, glass fusing, or kiln-forming, has given me the chance to explore different techniques and reactions in the glass. The transformation of the glass in the kiln is amazing. Mixing a bit of science with creativity holds no bounds in glass fusing!
In addition to working with bright, colourful bullseye glass, I particularly like using the accessory glasses like powder, frit, ribbon and stringers to create pieces of art that are completely unique. I continue to explore translucency and all the ways glass interacts with light.
