I am a figurative artist working primarily in oil paint over collage. My work explores an individual’s right to define their own identity and to determine who they will become.
Identity starts forming in childhood and never stops evolving, shaped by memories, experiences, relationships and values. As you learn more about yourself and choose your place in the world, self-understanding becomes essential. Your identity doesn’t just define who you are it tells others who they’re dealing with.
My collages are built from familiar images of home and upbringing. On top of these I try to create strong portraits of my subjects but let the collage come through to form part of the figure itself and add an extra dimension to the narrative.
