Artist information
Im a self taught wirework jewellery maker, crafter and sculpter in wirework.
Owner of Hand Crafted Jewellery by Jo.
I have run my business for 13 years this year, and in that time I have sold many items in retail, taught lots of people, including for three councils. I run my own workshops and clubs. I teach at festivals and events, and sell at craft fairs. Taught at eight Hobbycraft’s, including being at two brand new store opening weekends in Rugby and Merryhill and being a demonstrator on those days. I run workshops for the WI, Worcestershire Association of Carers, which I have done for 5 years.
I also support the Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery where they have a display of 100 items of my Jewellery and also some of my kits for sale, this is running as part of the take 3 exhibition which runs from 8/2/25 to 29/3/25. I have been involved with the museum for about 9 years, I have also supported the festival of Arts in Nuneaton entering learners from Warwickshire, Coventry and Worcestershire of all ages and abilities, and some of them have won, which has been fantastic for them and the community and schools, day centres etc. All of the learners work gets displayed and they can visit the Museum for Free with family and friends to celebrate their achievements.
I also run workshops for the Elderly, in residential homes of which I have four at the moment and am starting to run monthly. I do a lot of community work with Pals Fitness and education CIC, and I have been lucky enough to help with two projects with Pershore Abbey and a local School, where students have been able to display things they make in the Abbey, all of this helps community projects.
I was inspired by Crystals and working with wire, and being able to create one off bespoke items, this quickly led to teaching learners of all ability’s and ages. I also believe that creative work helps children, young people and adults of all abilities learn, and I know from being a Mum it helps regulate their day.
Lock down, inspired me to teach online, making things people could find at home in the pandemic. I quickly learnt other crafts and skills to teach my learners, and kept them entertained in a time when people didn’t see anyone from one day to the next. I also opened this up-to family’s not just adults, often appearing with my youngest son, demonstrating children’s activities.
I love what I do and I know it helps other people with mindfulness from making.
I also teach in schools and specailist provisions as I believe everyone can achieve and ive also helped set up social enterprises and other peoples small businesses.
I have won 6 awards in teaching over the last 5 years including awards for the midlands and the uk, something im very proud of, one of which was for my dedication and commitment to teaching and learning in the pandemic, supported by the Department for Education.
I hope to meet as many people as possible by joining Open Studios, and inspire you on your creative journey.
Look forward to meeting you soon, any questions please get in touch.
Please note my cellar can be viewed (as on the video) however I will make sure my samples and demos and workshops slots are all on the ground floor, I also have a ground floor toilet, just incase you are visiting.
