Nicola Currie

My art is inspired by the natural world and colour, and here in Worcestershire there is an abundance of source material. I specialise in contemporary still life and botanical oil paintings. I am currently Artist in Residence at Spetchley Park and Gardens and some of my recent work focusses on the changing seasons in the gardens. I often incorporate reflective surfaces in a picture to help create images within images and sometimes use backgrounds of gold leaf to provide an extra source of light and colour. My interest in art and colour began at home. My father used to bring coloured fabric samples for new textile designs back from work and he asked for our opinion. As an adult, the fabric samples have been replaced by colour charts, as I am fascinated by the way that colour works.

I have exhibited at the New Art Gallery Walsall, the Society of Women Artists, The South West Academy of Fine Arts, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and RHS Rosemoor. I have had solo exhibitions at Worcester and Carlisle Cathedrals and Spetchley Gardens. My work in progress can be viewed on my Facebook and Instagram accounts.
