From my garden studio I create a variety of botanical studies, changing my focus with the seasons. I began my career using oils and 20 years later I still use them for my larger works on canvas, making the most of their buttery texture and impressionistic feel. I also focus heavily on smaller scale painting and illustrations on heavy archival papers, often combining inks and watercolour to achieve a fluid and slow style which befits my botanical subjects. In addition, my focus moves to drypoint etching, using my printing press to create small scale studies. This process is time consuming, focusing on composition and mark making. During the Open Studios I will be demonstrating a variety of techniques in my studio, including dry point etching, ink and oil painting and illustration. I look forward to opening my studio doors again in August. Please visit my website lauranicholsonart.com or my instagram laura.nicholson.art for further details on exhibitions and work.
