Drawing, Painting

Always passionate about art & design, I was lucky enough to have a successful international career designing for such brands as Mulberry, Daniel Hechter, Bamford and Boden, as well as lots of freelance projects. I followed this with creating two award-winning clothing & lifestyle stores for 12 years, and then life unexpectedly took a different direction.
I’d always painted & sketched and longed for a time when I could devote more time to the practice so this gave me the opportunity to commit to developing my new career (with the odd project on the side!).

Splitting my time between the Malvern Hills and the Ceredigion coast provides endless inspiration for my work.
Most of my paintings originate from sketches & notes made on my daily walks. I work in quite an impressionistic way enjoying employing different marks and mediums to achieve a sense of place rather than an exact, photographic representation.

I work in whichever media I am drawn to at any given time, and frequently mix them together (perhaps a knock on effect from when I was an art student on a budget and just had to use what was available!). My current work is predominantly in oils & cold wax but I frequently use watercolour, inks & pastels if I am wanting to create a different feel and am passionate about the discipline of drawing.

For Worcestershire Open Studios I will be showing a brand new collection of paintings and drawings inspired by the Malvern Hills (where I live) and the wider Worcestershire landscape. Come and find me along with fellow artists Deb Catesby, Erin Conel, Stella Downing and Mary Brittain at Mary's stunning studio and house near Great Witley. Our work is all very different and should hopefully provide something for all tastes! The Studio opens out into a secluded courtyard garden where, weather permitting, we shall be offering refreshments.

I work under my maiden name but occasionally you may see pieces under 'Gemma Wiseman' !
