This is my first year of taking part in Worcestershire Open Studios since joining with other tuors at our much missed Malvern Hills College. I am delighted to be sharing with Laura Nicholson in her beautiful Stable Studio, a converted barn in the heart of Colwall.
I usually work from home in my caravan studio in Malvern Wells at the foot of the hills where I do oil painting and screenprinting. Watercolours and drawings are more often done up on the hills or around the commons. I am drawn to certain times of day, early morning or evening light can transform the landscape and am endlessly fascinated by the strong shapes and stark tonal contrasts of wild Hogweed and its interaction with the landscape.
It is only since leaving college in London and moving to Malvern in 1982 that landscape has become my focus.
