Bryonie Williams — Ceramicist

Although part of my training as an art teacher saw me explore ceramics, along with graphics and art history, it took me 37 years before I started producing pottery. Once retired from teaching, I started pottery classes to help me build my knowledge and skills and refine my practice. I soon discovered that I prefer hand building and the decoration and form that I use is inspired by the natural world and in particular my garden.

I also continue to draw and enjoy experimenting with colour and texture and these I have combined with my ceramic pieces – paintings made into glaze transfers. Under glaze colours, torn papers and etching into the clay to create ceramic collages and drawing into slip to reveal layers of colour. I am still exploring what is possible, enjoying the creative process as much as the finished item.
