Nicola Currie — Painter
My art is inspired by the natural world and colour, and here in Worcestershire there is an abundance of source material. I specialise in contemporary still life and botanical oil paintings. In a society constantly bombarded with fast moving images I hope that my paintings encourage the viewer to see some of the beauty of the world and share my gaze and wonder.
I often incorporate reflective surfaces in a picture to help create images within images and sometimes use backgrounds of gold leaf to provide an extra source of light and colour. I began my interest in art at home when my father used to bring coloured fabric samples for new designs back from work and asked for our opinion. At university I focused on ceramics, but realised that with oil paints I was able to reproduce the colours which have so inspired me and I have been painting ever since.
I have exhibited at the New Art Gallery, Walsall, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, RHS Rosemoor, as well as presenting solo exhibitions at Worcester and Carlisle Cathedrals. My work in progress can be viewed on my Instagram account. I will miss seeing some of my regular visitors to Open Studios this year but I hope you enjoy looking at this changing gallery. If you would like to receive my monthly mailing with news of exhibitions and new paintings, or commission work for a special occasion, please email me.www.nicolacurrie.co.uk
