Susan Birth — Painter
I create vibrant, mainly – but not always – semi-abstract artwork making bold use of colour, shape, pattern and texture and using a wide variety of media and techniques including collage. The resulting compositions offer variety and are both impactful and intriguing. They are intended to hold the gaze and attention, maybe striking a chord, evoking a thought or a memory. I think of my paintings as ‘Happy Paintings’ and believe that both creating and viewing art can help reduce stress and promote well-being.
I take part in local art events such as Worcestershire Open Studios and exhibit locally at art fairs and art spaces. I’m proud to say that I’ve also had work selected for the annual Exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in Mall Galleries, London for two consecutive years. This year’s exhibition is still online until further notice.
During the lockdown I’ve adapted by increasing my online presence, producing Art Ideas to encourage both children and adults to get creative and doing my bit to help out some local charities, in particular Welfare for Healthcare and Headway. I’ve also worked on an exciting project with fellow Worcester artists Cherrie Mansfield and Caroline Hall along with local poet Jeremy Harwood. We were awarded a #CreativeConnections grant by Severn Arts and Worcestershire County Council for this collaborative work.
I would like to thank the Open Studios organisers for giving us this opportunity to extend our online presence via this website.www.susanbirth.com
