My Art Journey
My passion for art was turned into practical achievement in my young adult years, attending night school and college classes in portraiture, landscapes, and Chinese Brush painting. I was lucky to learn from accomplished artists in each discipline, refining my skills in graphite, pastels, oils, and ink.
In 2018, determined to pursue art more seriously, I joined a three-day intensive watercolour workshop. Though I had long admired watercolour, its immediacy intimidated me. The workshop taught me how to handle watercolour; it transformed my approach, boosting my confidence and shaping my artistic direction.
Since then, I’ve set up my own studio and immersed myself in the art of watercolour. I
n my choice of subject matter; I’m drawn to the quiet poetry of forgotten and timeworn things — weathered architecture, remnants of craftsmanship, the subtle grace of decay. There’s a beauty in what endures and fades that speaks to me, shaping not only what I choose to paint, but how I paint: with reverence, precision, and a deep sense of stillness.
More recently I’ve been exploring the challenges of painting figurative subjects in watercolour.
