Emma Steger – Off My Tree
Art Forms
Sculpture, Woodwork
Artist information
I am a self-taught maker who emphasises sustainability, reusing and reforming wood, often gleaned from unexpected sources. My process begins with what I find.
My current work focuses more on form rather than function, embracing the unpredictability of wood and celebrating imperfection and texture. I work in a free, unstructured way, experimenting with different finishes or leaving the wood in its raw state, realising its natural beauty. Inspired by the female form and the natural world, creating sculptural pieces meant to be held, explored, and felt.
Concerned about our impact on the environment, I am committed to leaving no trace. I work exclusively with reclaimed wood, and add no chemicals, plastics, or resin, although this creates its own parameters, I like the idea of my pieces being eventually returned safely to nature.
