Artist information
I’m Helen, from Helen Kate Designs. I make original art and prints, which I turn into greeting cards for all occasions, bookmarks, and more.
I grew up in the Worcestershire countryside, near the Malvern Hills, which are a great source of inspiration to me.
Having studied architecture at university and worked as a professional architect for 19 years, I have an affinity for drawing buildings, particularly local landmarks. I have a huge passion for wildlife and nature, and through my work in architectural design, I understand the importance of natural elements and references to nature within our living and working spaces for our health and wellbeing.
Working with pen and ink, water colour, and acrylic paint, I create a variety of pieces from pet portraits and wildlife art to florals and architectural pieces. I try to do a black and white version and a vibrant colour version of each piece to accommodate different styles and also practice techniques and mediums. I also offer a “Paint your own” version of each of my floral greeting cards in the A-Z and Birth month ranges, which make a lovely gift from a child or for the budding artist in your life.
I also take commissions for drawing wedding bouquets, calling on my floral detailing skills and use of vibrant colours.
My work has been displayed in local art exhibitions, featured in online charity exhibitions to raise funds for wildlife, and commissioned to showcase a series of local churches. I have designed these into a range of greeting cards, which I plan to expand on to include more local places of interest.
Currently, I am working on a sketchy series for children – an A-Z of animals, which I hope to turn into a banner or garland for bedrooms and nurseries, and possibly a greeting card series.
I offer drawing tuition and drawing lessons for all ages.
I live near the Malvern hills with my husband and dog, Bailey, where we enjoy getting out and about with our cameras to capture the sights and sounds of the natural wildlife nearby.
