Artist information
With a lifelong passion for art and design, I graduated from Kingston School of Art which led to a successful international design career, working with renowned brands including Mulberry, Daniel Hechter, Bamford, and Boden, alongside numerous freelance projects.
Although painting and drawing have always been part of my life, a significant life change gave me the opportunity to focus fully on my artistic practice while still taking on occasional projects, including my voluntary role as co-organiser of Worcestershire Open Studios.
I find working from life, either still life or life drawing, has become as essential part of my practice and enjoy the contrast between that and my landscape work.
Living on the Malvern Hills, I draw constant inspiration from the landscapes around me. Frequent visits to the Ceredigion coast and Cornwall provide an endless source for my work. Most of my work begins with sketches and notes made during daily walks, developing into expressive paintings that capture a sense of place beyond a literal representation. My practice is rooted in drawing and observation, often working ‘en plein air’ to respond directly to the landscape.
I work across a variety of media – oils mixed with cold wax, watercolour, inks, and pastels, often combining them to achieve the desired outcome and encourage experimentation, a habit formed during my student days when resourcefulness was key.
My work has been recognised with the TALP Open Daler-Rowney Award, the TALP Open The Artist Exhibition Award, and selection as a Broadway Open Finalist. I have also exhibited with the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries, London.
