My view of creativity is of inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes (who says they are?), and having fun.
Painting for me is a visual conversation, initiated between paint and myself, articulating something that the language of words cannot. I love the act, the “communion” of painting where a dialogue takes place between me and the canvas. Paint, lovely wonderful paint is the enabler in this process.
I explore the nature of intuition and feeling, combining both to create something not ultimately real, but fundamentally human. Completion is mutually decided, and the result usually relates to my own thoughts and feelings concerning the human condition, social comment, or political debate.
You the the viewer then take over this conversation, finding your own meanings, feelings, interpretations.
Visitors to the risk free environment of my studio will have opportunity to explore the nature of intuition and feeling. Our visual vocabularies are drawn from our unconscious world of the observed. We can together explore some of the myths that define what is “realistic.” We can listen to music which I find has the ability to motivate and relax, enabling the analytical side of our brain to be suspended. We can play….we can have fun!
P.S. I learned how to trust this process whilst working with Blind and Partially Sighted People.
