‘Art is being free of all the worlds heaviness’
I began a teaching career in 1987, left for community nursing then became an art psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. However chaotic my life and employment has been the one constant in my life has been my art. My paintings bookmarks my life. Some of it settled, some of it crazy. Today I live in the most amazingly beautiful village of Broadway, ready to start the last chapter of my life.
Here in the stunning Cotswolds I have been blessed with some free time to paint, be retrospective and enjoy a slower pace of life again. I think this is reflective in my art work. It seems to have become more joyful, playful and colourful. I do not profess to have a theme or be expert, but I do tend to stay with the same materials: water based oils or acrylics. I have dabbled in pottery, until my kiln died, sculpture, pen and ink and jewellery making but I always come back to painting. It sooths the central nervous system and my soul.
I love painting landscapes and still life, if I can mix the two I will. I am not the best at portraits or animals but they are out there.
I have exhibited mainly in the North; in York, Hull Ferens, Lincoln, Louth, Grimsby, Brigg, Barton and now in Broadway. I gained my MA at Leeds Met, studying in Sheffield.
