Artist information
My journey in art is deeply rooted in the gritty streets of Salford, where I studied under Harold Riley, a friend of the renowned L.S. Lowry.
Though I initially pursued a career in psychology as a prison and business psychologist and university lecturer, I have since returned to my first love: art. Now ‘retired,’ I dedicate myself to figurative art and portraiture, offering workshops, demonstrations, and commissions.
My recent work has been exhibited with the RBSA
For me, drawing and painting are not about creating perfect pictures but about capturing the essence of a person.
Portraiture is a delicate balance between portraying the character of a three-dimensional figure and allowing the raw, expressive marks of pencil, charcoal, or brush to remain visible. This process is not only a source of artistic fulfilment but also a profound tool for my sense of wellbeing. Immersing oneself in art quiets the mind, fosters creativity, and offers a therapeutic escape from life’s stresses. Whether striving for emotional expression, improved focus, or simple joy, the act of drawing enhances both personal growth and peace of mind.
