I’m an artist whose main interest is figurative painting. I use family photographs, film, advertising, and my own photography, which I combine, compose, and crop to achieve open narratives. I often use colour to explore its impact on an image’s feeling and meaning. My goal is to create an artwork about humanness that is, to quote Alan de Botton, ‘a constant source of support and encouragement for our better selves.’ I was the proud and grateful winner of the Regional Prize for the Midlands in the ING Discerning Eye Competition in 2022 and was shortlisted for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition in 2024. I have paintings in several private collections. This year, I’m proud to be sharing a venue with Deb Catesby and Mary Brittain.

Demonstration on Colour: One of my favourite things to do is play with colour, so I’m excited to be offering a demonstration on Sunday, Aug 24 from 1-3pm. I’ll show you how I approach pigment choice, choose palettes, use interactions of colour, and play with simple images to understand the impact of those colour choices. I’ll have examples of work that explore this, and do some easy examples live while explaining how you can play with colour too. I’ll send you away with key ideas, a bibliography, some suggested palettes, and hopefully, some inspiration. I look forward to seeing you there!
