I am very excited to be able to open my studio space this year and, as part of the team of artists working out of Arley Studios, we are planning a diverse and enjoyable visit for you. You can expect a warm welcome with refreshments, including beautiful home made cakes as well as the chance to watch artists demonstrate or talk about their work and inspiration.
In my own work I lean toward watercolour and mixed media to create paintings inspired by nature; be that the wild coast and mountains in the west of Scotland or Wales, or the abundance of organic forms found in local woods and hedgerows. I also have an allotment where I grow many flowers to attract pollinators and to provide a soothing place to potter, another wonderful inspiration for my paintings. My style is loose and follows the flow of the paint or the lines and marks I make with a variety of media. I love to experiment and let the marks I make lead me but I also enjoy the discipline of drawing and painting wildlife, a skill that has been honed by being a student of Sarah Stokes for several years. However, I always return to the landscapes I love and the emotions that rise in me when I stand in the places I choose to capture in my work. I hope that this is part of story the viewer can sense and take as a starting point for their own response to my work.
