Artform: Collage, Mixed media, Textiles & Needlework

I am Sylvie Millen, a mixed media textile artist exploring the delicate balance between nature and humanity through my work. My practice spans textile landscapes, sculptural embroidery, and contemporary stitched pieces, often incorporating wire, vintage lace, and recycled materials to create ethereal, thought-provoking forms.

Working intuitively, I stitch intricate textures and hidden words into my pieces, allowing each artwork to tell a deeper story. My sculptures and free-motion embroidery capture fleeting moments, from the fragility of dragonfly wings to the resilience of the human spirit.

In my garden studio, surrounded by natural inspiration, I experiment with materials, layering fabric and thread to create organic, tactile works. Here, I also teach workshops, guiding others in discovering their own creative voice through textile art.

My current work explores themes of identity, memory, and healing, using techniques such as wrapping, binding, and sculptural embroidery to evoke a sense of history and emotion. Whether in textile landscapes or contemporary stitched installations, my work is an ongoing dialogue between past and present, structure and fragility.
