Tony Phillips – Beginners Guide to Breakdown Printing
Venue: IDC College, 17-21 Worcester Road, Bromsgrove
Cost: £75
Timing: 10am – 4pm
Date: 27 June

Discover the joyful unpredictability of breakdown printing in this hands‑on, beginner‑friendly workshop at IDC’s new Textile Room. This expressive surface‑design technique transforms thickened dyes, texture, and time into beautifully layered, organic prints — no two outcomes are ever the same.
Across the day, you’ll learn how to:
Build textured screens using everyday objects and mark‑making tools
Prepare dyes and create your own breakdown plates
Print layered, evolving patterns onto fabric
Embrace the element of surprise as the screen releases colour gradually
Develop a small collection of unique printed cloth to take home
This workshop is perfect for complete beginners, returning makers, and anyone who loves colour, texture, and a bit of creative chaos. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with a stack of expressive fabrics ready for stitch, collage, or further development.
Price: £75
When: Saturday 27th June
Time: 10am–4pm
Location: IDC Textile Room, Bromsgrove
All materials included.
