Artist information
My creative background is antique furniture restoration and jewellery making. I have always enjoyed painting and being creative but that was not on a regular basis until 2023. Since then I have painted whenever I get the chance and feel very passionate about it.
“I am very much influenced by naive and folk art. Colour, pattern and a sense of space is evident in my artwork. I paint in a naive almost cartoon like style with bold outlines and sprinkle a bit of playfulness into it. I paint in acrylic, preferring it to oil, as I am too impatient to wait for oil to dry. I paint what is around me ,images I see and get inspired by. I very much enjoy playing with colour combinations and I often conjure things up in my head. I am not massively into sketching but things often just pop in my head and I just start painting.
“I am a real night owl and often paint late into the night. I get inspiration from interior magazines which I love looking through. I will tear out many pages with beautiful wallpapers, textile patterns, merchandise, pottery etc. I also love visiting museums, galleries, National Trust properties and antique shops which all give me ideas and what I like to try to paint.
“My subject matter tends to be still life, animals and portraits. I like to create art that makes myself and others smile. That evokes joy and attracts through offering something a little bit different.”
I tend to recycle quality frames when I can,in order to reduce waste to landfill. I paint them in gorgeous chalk colours fitting to the art work. Occasionally with patterns on the frame. I also use antique frames in beautiful warm oak for example.
I have my work exhibited in a few galleries and shops such as:
Spencer House Gallery in Tetbury
LSA in Leamington
The Gallery Pershore
Abbey Gallery Tewkesbury
Studio 4 at the Fold in Bransford
Lillie and Dot in Worcester
Guest artist at Galley 3 in Cleavedon
I have also taken part at the Blue Magpie art fair at Elmslie House in Malvern and the Artery studios in Worcester.
