Artform: Painting
This year I am delighted to show my art work with some very talented fellow Worcestershire artists at the amazing Henry Sandon Hall, which is nestled between the famous Worcestershire Porcelain museum and the lovely “Good Roots” cafe. An ideal location to show you an array of art I have been working on since I last showed my work at Worcestershire Open Studios.
I have a number of paintings which I created as a series, which will sit nicely side by side and some stand alone pieces as well. I work mainly in acrylic and paint either on board or canvas. I enjoy acrylic due it’s versatility and the fact it dries rather quickly. This suits my style of painting, which is naive and painterly. I tend to depict every day scenes, objects or people in a humorous way and enjoy experimenting with colour combinations, textures and patterns. I tend to use bold outlines, which at times give the artwork a somewhat cartoonish style. I am a self taught artist and although I have not painted on a regular basis for very long, I have already sold many of my artworks in various galleries and through Instagram.
My main influences come through observations, my love of fashion, interiors, antiques, people, animals, photography, film and folk art. All inspire me a great deal and will reflect in my artwork. Where I am able I will recycle good quality wooden frames and usually paint them in beautiful chalk paints and wax such as Annie Sloan, to compliment my art work. If the frame is an original vintage or antique, I often do very little to it and let it speak for itself. This is my way of supporting to prevent further landfill and the transformation gives me great joy. It would be delightful to see as many people and possibly their dogs (which are welcome too) at Henry Sandon Hall during Worcestershire Open Studios.
