As a designer maker you are always looking to improve your work, while challenging yourself to be creative and constantly striving to do bigger and better pieces, never complacent and always eager to improve. This is something I have always desired to achieve and from a very early age, while growing up, I developed an interest in beaded jewellery. With the support of my artistic family background, I took to teaching myself jewellery, from this it has been an inevitable path that I wish to follow.
After completing my years at school, I went on to study three dimensional design at Plymouth University where I specialised as a designer maker achieving a BA hons. Eager to improve and learn more this was a mere starting point, I continued to study at Birmingham City University in design Craft, winning the BJA jewellery quarter award and the Hans Goldwyn award in the process. It is with this level of education, over the past fifteen years where I have truly been developing my skills and design philosophy.
With this now behind me, it has made me aspire to become an independent designer maker. I have been greatly inspired by the idea of changing existing objects into other options, or more functional pieces, using geometric forms as a basis. Developing a variety of furnishings and objects I have been able to keep an open prospective on the ideals of furniture and jewellery. Always interested in the ideas of further study and self development, I had wanted to look at small scale pieces such as fine jewellery, changing scale to accommodate for potential clients. The materials I use match this concept; therefore I find great pleasure in being able to explore the idea of incorporating materials and modern technology together. It is through the use of this skill that I have been able to achieve my goals and strive to become a versatile designer maker.
Taking inspiration from existing objects and geometric forms, this wire-based works is modelled on highly complex traditional filigree pieces.
It is through this exploration that we are able to see a range of collections From the Telkari Ovals to Telkari Rectangles, where I use the ideals of the wire work in picture frames. Over a Period of time the different Ranges have been developing, through a series of experiments and ideas, when I first started looking at filigree I experiment with rectangular panel and this is something I wanted to research further.
Striving to become synonymous with beautifully simple and innovative design. Drawing inspiration from geometric forms and traditional design methodologies, my striking pieces embody my desire to excel as a modern craftsperson and pay homage to classical high craft jewellery design. My jewellery is carefully crafted from high-grade materials using modern design technologies, resulting in pieces that are not only superbly functional and stunning but also a delight to wear and highly sought after! offering the durability that traditional filigree does not have, the ability to wear jewellery every day.
