Artist information
My background is Fine Art .I studied printmaking , sculpture and painting for my degree and somehow also managed to create ceramics working in a local pottery. It was a busy time but one I thoroughly enjoyed! I decided to concentrate on painting after college and created large abstract pieces for exhibitions in Brussels and private homes before returning to the Uk 14 years old .
Now I live in Worcester and work from my garden studio .When I returned from Belgium I was immediately overwhelmed with the beauty of our landscapes, the hills and local wildlife .This became a focus of my work for a number of years. Wildlife and landscapes. I have been fortunate to work on many commissions which is always a joy, to create something very personal and meaningful to the client. This maybe a local scene, a favourite flower, Beer label in Hereford , silks in London or a precious family memory.
I work mainly in acrylics and inks to create my paintings. The acrylics allow me to layer washes of colour and use the inks as watercolour where needed. It is a fantastic medium to use but does have its challenges, the warm weather does speed things up a bit !I work in periods of two hours , this allows me to reflect on the work and keep the painting fresh and alive. I want to create a moment , a pause in my pieces which draw the viewer in and engage with the subject…to reconnect with nature.Nature and our position in this space has become more of a focus in my recent work ,ceramics and paintings are partnered together for impact and reflection.
This August at ‘Open Studios’ I will be showing my local Malvern Hills paintings, wildlife and as always, a few surprises.I will also be creating a few ceramics hares, foxes and other pieces which encourage us to put on our boots and get muddy !
I exhibited regularly throughout the year with Barbourne Artists, Open Studios and am represented in three local Worcestershire Galleries. My studio in Worcester is always open ….you may even get a cuppa and purr from the cat!
