Artist information
Growing up in Dorset, I was surrounded by rolling hills and dramatic coastlines which, coupled with a very active imagination, fed a love of drawing and art from an early age. I graduated with first class honours in Illustration from Falmouth University College in 2007, and have worked as an artist and illustrator since; writing and illustrating my own award winning picture books, as well as on editorial work and commissions for private clients.
I am now West Midlands based, specialising in landscapes, both rural and urban, real and imagined, through printmaking and ink and watercolour illustration. Inspired by mid-century Ladybird illustrators such as SR Badmin and painter and designer Eric Ravilious, as well as artists Ken Kiff and Paul Klee, my work has a narrative atmosphere, influenced by my affinity for storytelling, line work and the illustrative lens I see the world through.
I am interested in the idea of home, belonging and our connection to the environment we find ourselves in. In an increasingly alarming world I find strength and sanctuary exploring the more immovable, ancient and awe-inspiring facets of our shared home. I love to play with the colours found in nature, wide expansive skies, and imagined scenes based on my own memories, using layers of paint and meandering line work.
I live with my husband and two children, love hill walking, reading, and enjoy being part of the thriving local art scene where I live.
