Artist information
I am a mixed media artist and painter and one of the six professional Resident Artists at Bevere Gallery, Worcester. My studio is open to visitors Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. I’m driven to depict aspects of the world around me that intrigue me and this is what informs my art. For example, I’ve been drawn to fascinating aspects of a landscape or cityscape, of a wild garden, exhibits in a museum, a poem, art seen in galleries and/or books, particular combinations of colours, textures, shapes, mood – something that grabs me and fills me with the longing to express it in my own way. I often want to create something beautiful that intrigues me and pleases others. I love experimenting with different mediums and techniques to find those that work well for me. So, for example, I’ve found that playing with mixing up collage and paint gives me a certain freedom to interpret. Simply throwing down some colours and seeing what develops is another avenue I’ve explored, and a great way of creating a captivating image that’s perhaps drawn from somewhere in my subconscious, something I’ve experienced in life or possibly in my dreams? Representational? Yes, sometimes, always interpreted in my own way. Semi-abstract? Certainly – the intention often being to create a dreamlike mood. Abstract?
Once I’m absorbed in creating, I find it very hard to drag myself away. Sundays and Mondays are non-studio days and by Tuesday I’m craving the studio fix! I truly love what I do and feel very lucky that my buyers love it too.
Over the years, I’ve exhibited widely, both locally and further afield, including having artworks selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours at Mall Galleries, London and Broadway Arts Festival. I’ve exhibited at Bath Art Fair in the last 3 years. I enjoy the challenge of commissions, both private and public. Some examples include painting a banner for Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee commissioned by Severn Arts and two community-based commissions for Worcester Art Gallery and Museum. I genuinely love the fact that my art can help local charities. In 2024 I painted a penguin for Waddle of Worcester and my penguin Blossom was bought at auction by Worcester Bosch in support of St Richard’s Hospice. I’ve also contributed paintings for art auctions organised by and for St Richard’s Hospice and at a Worcester Mayor’s charity event.
In the first couple of months of 2026 I’ve been working on a new series of ‘Worcester Canal-side’ mixed media pieces with a more ‘industrial’ colour palette and incorporating poetry about the history/story of our canals by former Worcestershire Poet Laureate Suz Winspear. The set of seven will form part of a solo exhibition at Pershore Number 8 from 9th to 29th April entitled ‘Verse in Vision’. On 9th April at the Preview Evening (from 7.45) Suz will read her seven poems that were commissioned by the Canal and River Trust. All are welcome to come along!
