During Arts Week, I’ll be painting at my venue Fig Tin Gallery & Studio in the heart of Bewdley, painting and welcoming visitors from 11 AM to 4 PM each day. There won’t be any scheduled demonstrations, but you’re welcome to drop by and see my creative process in action, surrounded by a curated gallery of work.
My paintings are all about energy, emotion, and the beauty of letting go. I work in an intuitive way, layering, scraping, and revealing until something clicks. I refer to my process as ‘Abstract Familiarity’—I don’t plan anything, I don’t sketch or journal, it is just a conversation between me and the paint. Eventually, a composition will evolve that’s familiar in subject, but abstract in nature. It’s not as simple as still-life, I prefer ‘simple life’ and I don’t always know what’s going to appear as it’s all imagined. For me it’s about embracing the process, gifting time and finding freedom in creativity. I have quite a rebellious spirit and a gloriously chaotic brain, so I am happy to just let things develop in unexpected ways. My work is raw, expressive, and deeply personal, yet open for others to connect with in their own way.
I share the same passion for creativity in my workshops at Fig Tin. I teach because I know how powerful art can be—it’s freeing, healing, and confidence-building. While I don’t set out to run groups exclusively for women, they always end up that way! There’s something truly special when women come together in this environment, they start to believe and let go of self-doubt, and create something they never thought possible. It’s not just about the painting—it’s about connection, and finding a sense of self through art. When I see that joy, that’s the moment.
