Artform: Drawing, Mixed media, Painting
Sarah Jemmett returned to painting later in life, reigniting a lifelong passion for art. She recently completed a 12-month Art Practice Course at the Newlyn School of Art in Cornwall, an experience that deepened her connection to the land and profoundly influenced her work. This culminated in an exhibition at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, near Penzance and she continues to exhibit her paintings throughout the UK. Sarah is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Working primarily in mixed media, Sarah’s paintings are a visual dialogue with the natural world. Her process is intuitive and layered, capturing the movement, energy, and overlooked details of the ever-changing landscapes and seascapes. She is particularly drawn to the interplay of light, texture, and the rich natural colours found in the land, trees, sea and shifting seasons.
Her work often explores the tension between permanence and change in the landscape—revealing traces of history, weathered surfaces, and organic forms shaped by time. Using inks, oils, acrylics, charcoal, and powdered pigments, she builds depth and atmosphere, evoking both the seen and the unseen.
Through her paintings, Sarah invites the viewer to look more closely, to sense the rhythms of nature, and to discover beauty in the quiet, often unnoticed moments of the world around us.
