Etching was my first love and I still enjoy it. I love the quality of the etched line and the play of deep black and clean white with all the shades of grey between. My etchings, as all the rest of my work, are figurative and usually have a narrative element.
In my wood- and lino cuts I make use of strong flat colour set against areas of black. The process has some similarities with stained glass, which I also make, in that one has to work in different stages. The coloured glass itself is a beautiful material, tempered and modulated by the painting and staining, and accentuated by the lead that holds it together. I make hanging panels, some free-standing pieces and I am always interested in discussing commissions. www.fwstainedglass.co.uk franswesselman@gmail.com
