Jeweller

Three sterling silver gemstone rings

Artform: Jewellery & Silversmithing

I am a contemporary jeweller, working primarily with up-cycled and recycled sterling silver, semi-precious gemstones, and a smidgen of gold. I use bought in recycled metals along with old silver that I repurpose from old spoons, napkin rings, and the like, to make the various components of the jewellery. For instance I use the handles of coffee spoons to make gemstone rings and the bowls of spoons to make molten hearts. My jewellery collections lean heavily on texture and form, and threading through it all is the premise that there is beauty everywhere, even amongst the broken and discarded. I incorporate hammering and melting techniques to forge, reticulate and fuse the organic and natural textures into my jewellery, and my work embraces a handmade characterful naivety that makes each piece unique. I am ever inspired by all things old, weathered, rugged and wonky, and my Evesham studio is filled with an eclectic mix of the lost and discarded things that feed my pot of ideas. I love that jewellery can hold deep meaning and illustrates the story of the wearer. It can carry that story through generations, and I aim to enhance this narrative where possible with pre-owned components and careful gemstone choices.
