To best describe what I do I could say “Just add water”!
I love to paint in watercolour, exploring different ways of combining them with inks and other water based media. They are fluid and immediate and being transparent they layer in beautiful glazes which capture the light. With their honest integrity there is nowhere to hide – you see it all on the page.
A lifelong passion for Cornwall has inspired a body of work based on the landscape and unique bright colour palette of West Penwith. I’m happiest when sat on a cliff with a sketchbook, or people watching in the harbour.
I like to stay curious and experiment with new ideas, such as applying Warhol’s blotted line print technique to create a collection of illustrations of vintage jewellery and still lifes. Most recently I’ve set out to introduce gouache and body colour to capture a selection of everyday items. Teaching also prompts me to question and reflect on my own work which then helps to continue to grow my art practice.
I’ll be bringing completed original works, prints, sketchbooks and examples of work in progress to share at Open Studios and aim to give informal demos where possible during the day.
It’s been great to be part of WAC, work together in collaborations and I’m excited to join the gang again for Worcestershire Open Studios. I’ve previously taken part from my home studio in Bromsgrove.
For me Open Studios is a unique opportunity to not only share my work but to explore it from the perspective of others. I love to chat about art generally, answer questions and just encourage everyone to have a go.
